That awkward moment when a consultant asks you to teach his 3rd year medical students, and you don't know where to start...
Keen to have something up your sleeve to give the students a great learning experience, and that you can enjoy? Then Clinical Teacher could be for you.
The GMC encourages students and Foundation doctors to gain experience in clinical teaching, and yet it is still an area that is missing from many medical school curricula and that appears on Core Training application forms.
Fastbleep offers a day-long masterclass that covers the theory behind small group teaching and information on a career in medical education, as well as the chance to practice and try out different techniques.
The day includes:
- Seminars on educational theory: planning teaching sessions using educational psychology, managing small group teaching using theory, research in medical education.
- Information on careers in medical education: people at different stages in their education careers will lead a special session, in addition to informal advice over lunch.
- Small group teaching sessions: plan a teaching session in the morning and deliver it in the afternoon. You'll get feedback on how to improve it, and have a ready-made teaching session to take away to undertake outside Clinical Teacher.
